I’m a Full Professor of Sociology at the University of Milan.

I arrived at “La Statale” in 2022, after five years at the University of Leeds where I served as a Professor of Media and Communication. Prior to leaving the U.S., I worked for eight years at the College of Staten Island, part of the CUNY system in New York City.

My research is first and foremost about institutional knowledge- how it gets produced, how it comes to be seen as legitimate (or not) and how knowledge is changing under conditions of digitization. You can learn more about this on the “research” page of this website.

I try to write as often as I can, as publicly as I can. Writing is how I think through ideas and decide what I actually think about complex topics. You can find some of my published non-academic writing on the “publications and talks” page.
